Johnny's Guitars
Johnny's Main Guitar - The White Erlewine Lazer
I play the Erlewine Lazer "Johnny Winter" model most of the time. The Erlewine Lazer is a headless guitar with tuners at the bridge. The Lazer looks unique with it's unusual body style and the "Wine-O-Matic" bridge arrangement. This guitar looks small, but it plays the same as a typical Strat or Tele with it's 25-1/2" scale length. Here I am with this guitar.
Look closely at this picture and you can see the neck of the red Hondo Lazer guitar, which is used as a backup. I call this guitar, fittingly, "Red." Also, you can see the Mesa Boogie combo amps. These are Studio .22 Caliber models. The bottom one is for clean sounds, the top one is for crunch and distortion sounds.
"OK, I'm starting to get a little "itchy" about guitar amps - maybe I'll start using something different. How about a Dr. Z Maz 18?" OK, I made a switch of guitar amps. I started using the 'Dr. Z MAZ 18' guitar amp, and now I use a Dr. Z Maz 38. See below!

The Camo Hondo Lazer
This is my Camo Hondo Lazer, which is sometimes brought to the stage as a backup to the main White Erlewine Lazer #2 guitar. It's the same size as the White Erlewine Lazer, but it has only one pickup in the bridge position. This guitar was made by Hondo sometime in the mid-1980s - and it was licensed to Hondo by the same Mark Erlewine that makes the Erlewine Lazer today in Austin, Texas.
So, why would Johnny have a "GARNET" Army? E-Mail Johnny and he'll let you know: [email protected]

Check out the red Dr. Z Maz 18 guitar amp, next to Johnny. This amp is really clean and punchy, and it take pedals very well. It's only 18 watts, but it'll take your head off if you let it! OK, maybe it's time for MORE POWER!
A Dr. Z MAZ 38, maybe? YES!!! 38 Watts! That's 20 more!

On rare occasions, I'll play a Music Man 410HD-130. It's like a Fender Super Reverb on steroids - 130 watts, 4-10" speakers in a combo amp. All I can say is, "This 4-10's - 130-watter is the whole truth!"
