We're gettin' ready to travel to Columbia, SC, for a show at Utopia Food & Spirits. It's on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, from 8:30 to 11:30PM. Looking forward to seeing some friends there! Kathy Siokos, for one. Expect some special guests playing and singing with us! I'm really excited about playing this gig!

I can't decide if I want to start playing a different guitar or not. I really like the Erlewine Lazer, but I'm starting to play the Fender Telecaster Deluxe some too. I used the Tele on several songs from the CD "Speak for Yourself." I played the Tele on "The Same," "Time to Fly" and "Up One Side and Down the Other."
I tell you what - send me your vote - Tele Deluxe or Lazer. E-mail me at: [email protected] and let me know which guitar you'd like to hear me play on my next CD. Thanks! -Johnny I've made my first single available for free, for the month of October, 2011. E-mail me at [email protected] and I'll personally e-mail you the "Devereaux" song mp3 file. This will go on only through October, so act soon! Response has been amazing so far! -Johnny
ps: "Devereaux" is a song about a street in my home town. Can you guess which town? We had a great Friday night at the Whistle Post Tavern - nice crowd, lots of requests and dancing! Thanks for coming out.
We just got confirmation on a date in November - November 12, 2011, in Columbia SC. It's at Utopia, on Rosewood Drive, next to Jim Casey's Fireworks. We play from 8:30PM to 11:30PM. We hope to see all of our friends from Columbia there!
Expect to see some guests there to play too. Those expected to perform with us include Sid Gattis, Bubba Willis and Ed Blanton! Well, I got an e-mail from a radio station in the UK. Romney Marsh FM is interested in playing songs from "Speak for Yourself." If you hear any "Johnny Reid" songs on this station, please let me know. You can stream the station over the 'net, here:
http://www.romneymarsh.fm/listen-now.html Kevin Beale has a Blues Radio Show called "Kev Beale's Blues Bunker" on Friday evenings, from 7PM to 9PM. Of course, there's a 5-hour time difference between Romney Marsh, UK and Eastern-Daylight time on the East-Coast side of the USA! So, if that's where you are, look for this radio show from 2:00PM to 4:00PM Friday afternoons! See, that makes it easy! I've got a special place in my heart for Blues radio shows. It was in Michigan that I heard a Blues Show that featured a Terry Evans' song called "Get Your Lie Straight." It was (and still is!) an inspiration to me. Made me go right out and find that CD! Today when that sort of thing happens, it sends me to the 'net to find the digital download of that (those) song(s). I got a very nice note today from Mark Erlewine of Erlewine Guitars. It turns out that he likes the new "Speak for Yourself" CD!
Mark makes the best guitars on the planet, and by that I mean the Erlewine Lazer!!! I really love playing mine. If you agree, let's hear it from you here! Sometimes we play gigs straight-through with no breaks, and the Lazer helps make that possible. It's only about 5.5 lbs, and it STAYS in tune for hours! And no, I'm not an Erlewine-company-sponsored endorser of the Lazer. They really are great guitars, and I'll tell anyone that anytime! Man, "Trial-by-Jury" just doesn't work these days, does it??!?
Lately I've been working on some guitars for a friend. He plays really hard, and he's tough on the guitars - so it takes a while to get them cleaned, straightened back out and restrung. Good thing that the main guitar in question is a Les Paul - it can stand the abuse! This Les Paul guitars are heavy - and I mean HEAVY as in weight! I am so glad I play an Erlewine Lazer - it weights less than 6 lbs., and it stays in tune!
We're working on more dates for this summer, so we hope to see you real soon!
